First Oil Change !! - Mustang

On the 12th Anniversary :)  for the first time I changed the oil myself.  I had a 10+ yrs old Team Mechanics 2 Ton floor jack and stands...  tried using them...was not confident to go under....the jack did not seem to work after lifting a few inches...

Sears had a sale on their Craftsman 3 Ton floor jack and stands... paid about $87 for both...  the 3Ton jack slid easily under the hood and I was able to jack up with the stands...

Hurt my finger when trying to assemble the jack and preparing it for the first time :(

Spilled the used oil all over the place....but it was fun!     Motorcraft FL 400S oil filter at Walmart $4    Pennzoil high mileage 5qt - $17.xx and 1qt for about $4.30   wanted to try this as the car has $103k miles now...... and takes about 5.5 quarts or so.....

Mustang - radiator hose

A month ago on the way back home...I started to see fumes under the hood when I was driving near the Sunol grade...pulled over... looked like coolant (green) and I saw a hold in the upper radiator hose!

Drove back slowly as I was afraid if it was engine oil leaking....  came home, cleaned up the mess...looked very much like oil but it was coolant mixed with grime and dirt....

Got the hose from NAPA - AAA 7% discount.... made by Gates..  same stuff at Kragen with a different brand name..

Two weeks later, changed the lower hose...   did not realize that the coolant will leak....ended up leaking about 1/2 a gall of coolant on the drive way....good thing that it did not flow until the road or the drain...ended up evaporating on the drive way itself....so I did not mess with the environment :)

The clamps are easy to remove...but I learnt the hard way !

Battery Change - Mustang

This happened a couple of times, when I try to start the car...it feels like the battery was almost dead but was just able to start....

On Friday...went to Napa to pick up the radiator hose and the battery was completely dead !  Called AAA - it was anywhere between now and 1 hr...then a person with a cherokee showed up and I asked him for help... I was able to jump start!

Went to Costco from there... as soon as I parked the car...it would not start again...  I don't want to call AAA again or ask for help - the guy parked next to me was a family man with new grand cherokee .. I doubted he helped....so went inside..bought a new battery....   Now if I only had a wrench..I can change it right there...

I had the bike took kit somewhere in the trunk...and I was able to find it !   Changed the battery..... returning the Core will get me $9 and I saw the label on the battery which talked about a 100month warranty.... definitely it was not even close to 100 months....so took it inside... the person said..he can take the battery back and give me a pro rated refund...   5yrs...40% - got $16 !  back.

Drove back home and everything looked okay....
